EXT: THE PUBLIC SQUARE BY THE MALL. NEXT MORNING

Everyone is dressed down in cut-offs, straw hats, sunglasses light dresses, and swimwear. They look good.

RACHEL

(almost imperceptibly over-rehearsed)

Cue the sun*

The shade slowly dissipates and the group put on sunglasses and bask for a moment. The temperature rises to a warm and relaxing 29 degrees and the SkyFans spin at a much slower rate. The group are assembling quietly happy to be back together after an afternoon off and the sound of running water from the rivers is heard again softly along with birds.

…Bleisure Island is pleased to announce their partnership with the experimental Hefei-based Institute of Plasma Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences on EAST, (experimental advanced superconducting Tokamak).

Renewable Energy Generation Systems, large-scale stuff!

RACHEL

(nodding as she continues)

Together, they have produced a full superconducting experimental Tokamak fusion device, which generates infinite, clean nuclear-fusion-based energy** creating our artificial sun, which powers the entire Island with infinite, green sustainable energy.

ETG

(unaware of repeating himself, as he is now much more sober)

You’re welcomed by the refreshing smell of the ocean which immediately delivers you to a paradise of recreation and amusement…

The group notices the smell again, and this time it mixes pleasantly with a sweet aroma of tropical fruits.

RACHEL

I want to talk a little about the optimum temperature for Bleisure, which is a basic premise of why we are setting up this unique lifestyle on an island- and why we think people will stay for Leisure as well as Business.

You will all, no doubt be used to Indoor temperatures in work conditions for physical labour – or ‘work-rooms’ in Engineering terminology – in the UK are usually localised at 16 degrees*** for the optimum productivity. Offices traditionally set their unsophisticated thermostats at 25 degrees celsius. However, we have used extensive studies to maintain a temperature that is not designed for productivity alone, but also for a relaxed attitude and a sustainable permanent work solution. Bleisure Island has its own new legislation as work is deemed to be done at a less intensive and more continual pace. Outdoors the temperature raises infinitesimally to around 27 degrees celsius for a convivial atmosphere.

I’ve had feedback that you’d like to know more about this to take back with you, so I have invited a latecomer, a representative from the HSE to talk some more about temperatures. It seems you’ve all been fascinated with the island’s ability to keep you comfortable this far, and our conversation. A forthcoming paper from researchers at UCLA even shows that brief exposure to warmer temperatures leads people to report higher job satisfaction.****

HSE

…Workplace temperature and thermal comfort- there’s more to it than just room temperature. In warm working conditions, more frequent rest breaks are needed….*****

The Group laugh and we see them from a distance, listening engaged and relaxed as they hear a whole string of reasons why resting more makes for better work practices. They laugh and sip cool Yerba Mate with Honey.
