Featuring work spanning four decades, New Group Materialism brings together a range of projects exploring corporate and mass media identity, language and aesthetics. Taking the 1973 video work Test Tube by Canadian collective General Idea as a point of departure, New Group Materialism, highlights works from 1973 to 2015 in an online exhibition on Tank.tv.
Curated by Justin Polera, Jack O’Brien and Jeppe Ugelvig, New Group Materialism includes an extract of Auto Italia’s moving image work On Coping, first presented at HPSCHD, at MAMbO Bologna, 2015. A collaboration between Marleen Boschen, Kate Cooper, Marianne Forrest and Theo Cook, the piece is part of Auto Italia’s ongoing research project of the same name. New Group Materialism also features contributions from General Idea, Bernadette Corporation, LuckyPDF, AIDS3D, DIS, Hito Steyerl, Shanzhai Biennial, Debora Delmar Corp, Yuri Pattison, Awol Erizku and BessNYC4.
