Join us for a newly commissioned performance by the DJs, vocalists and producers LC and mellowdramatics. In this event, the artists will present a 30 minute soundscape that will bring together newly composed sound and music with texts, poetry and creative writing that will explore issues related to Black subjectivity and representation in mainstream culture and education contexts. The event has been organised in conjunction with our current exhibition Masters by Shaun Motsi.
subject/objected has been supported by Goethe-Institut London.
Auto Italia’s commissions are made possible by our Exhibition Circle and Member supporters.
LC (b. 1996, UK) is a Nigerian-British artist, DJ, vocalist, and producer based in South London. Their music interlaces elements of pop and a wide span of electronic music to craft a rich tapestry of references. Bleeding heart lyricism and breathy sirensong characterise their sonic offerings. Their recent releases include the EP ‘Gaze-Star’ (2022) alongside Charles Verni on the label Scorpio Red. LC is also a vocalist in the band, bryony no.
mellowdramatics (b. 1994, UK) is a DJ who plays genre-less, club-focused and playful sets, pulling from divergent references that encapsulate the spectrum of what feels like home to them. As a founding member of Black Obsidian Sound System (B.O.S.S) & crew member of Tanum Sound System, mellowdramatics’ practice pushes to resist cooption through attempts at rebuilding, redistributing and sustaining space for those disenfranchised & marginalised. Live highlights include supporting Juliana Huxtable, Nkisi, Anz & Ama Lou in the U.K. and internationally in Paris, Berlin & San Juan.
