Paravent
In Conversation #4
Auto Italia & Primary
Wednesday 25 March, 18:30

A new creative order. A redefined cultural economy. A city in the grip of emerging markets.

You are heralding in this new era and it is dense and high-rise. Think of this as a hint of a much larger agenda, one that you cannot resist or escape. Maybe now it’s time to disguise your capital and take a moment to remember the importance of owning your position.

As a consumer, you can flaunt your good taste without having to physically buy; becoming lifestyle rich might be just enough. Enough for what though? Amid aggressive redevelopment programmes, the spaces for autonomous production are shifting and adapting.

Now trending: trust, working, believing – full work, full time, full creativity, full self.

On coping.

Join Auto Italia and Primary for a performative discussion as part of the Paravent series. Looking at what gentrification and redevelopment schemes mean for creative production in the city, Auto Italia will present a range of materials as a starting point for a wider discussion into strategies now available to artists and artist-led organisations.

Paravent

This strand of activity invites guest organisations to physically present something that demonstrates an aspect of their working approach. These events are framed by a set of Paravent Crates – a type of folding screen – that can be reconfigured to divide the project spaces at Primary in a variety of ways. This structural device, along with what each organisation presents, provides an environment to hold this ‘in conversation’ event.

Past events have presented conversations between: Eastside Projects & Hotel Charleroi, Gasworks & Glasgow Sculpture Studios, Tensta konsthall & Wysing Arts Centre.
