As part of Auto Italia’s Participation Artist-in-Residence programme with Rose Nordin and artists from Brighter Futures, a group of young migrants supported by Praxis and Kazzum Arts, we’re offering three free training sessions led by Praxis.
Praxis is a human rights charity that offers advice, provides support, and campaigns so migrants and refugees in the UK can live with safety, dignity and respect.
The sessions offer an opportunity to develop a better understanding of the immigration and asylum system, explore how migration is represented in the media and public debate, and consider the role of trauma-informed practice when working with people navigating these systems.
1. Understanding rights and entitlements in the immigration and asylum system
Tuesday 3 November 2026, 2–5pm
An introduction to routes through the immigration and asylum system, the rights and entitlements people have at different stages, and how to support and signpost people to further information and support.
2. Living in the Hostile Environment: countering negative narratives
Thursday 5 November 2026, 2–5pm
Explore media and public perceptions of migration, how these compare with people’s experiences, and ways to approach difficult conversations about migration and asylum. The session will also consider far-right actors and basic safety for people working with migrants.
3. Understanding the role of trauma-informed practice in working with people in the immigration and asylum system
Monday 9 November 2026, 10am–1pm
An introduction to trauma-informed practice, exploring when trauma can occur, its potential impact, and how to embed trauma-informed approaches in your work.
The second and third sessions will include contributions from people with lived experience of the immigration and asylum system.
All training sessions will take place at Auto Italia, 44 Bonner Road, E2 9JS
Who is it for?
These sessions are designed for anyone interested in developing their understanding of migration and asylum, and learning how to better support people navigating the immigration and asylum system. This includes youth workers, cultural workers, educators and community organisers.
