Appointment of Director, Auto Italia
Auto Italia is pleased to announce the appointment of our new Director, Maggie Matić, who will join the organisation at the end of May.
Dr Maggie Matić (they/them) is a curator and researcher with a specialism in contemporary feminist, crip and queer theory and visual culture. Maggie has a background in supporting artist research, development, and residency programmes and was previously Curator (Studios & Residencies) at Studio Voltaire, London. They have also previously held managerial and curatorial positions at Somerset House, Tate, The University of Liverpool and The Royal Standard.
At Studio Voltaire, Maggie curated solo presentations by Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, Olga Grotova and Zakiya McKenzie and led programmes including the LOEWE FOUNDATION / Studio Voltaire Award, Syllabus, the Artists’ Kitchen Salon Series in collaboration with iniva, Open House and the Art of Access programme. At Tate, they oversaw the Collaborative Doctoral Programme, the Tate Research Seminar Series, Tate’s Practice as Research programme and supported the delivery of Zanele Muholi’s 2020 exhibition at Tate Modern.
Maggie commented, “I feel incredibly honoured to be appointed Director at Auto Italia. The organisation has long held a very dear place in my heart for its pioneering approach to developing new and critical discourses at the intersections of art, activism, queer studies and social change. Auto Italia has such a rich and renowned history and programme, and I feel very privileged to be given the opportunity to lead the organisation into this exciting new chapter in its ongoing development.”
