Recent Work by Artists, a co-working exercise commissioned by Auto Italia in collaboration with Tim Ivison & Julia Tcharfas, George Moustakas and Rachel Pimm, will be part of Llocs comuns curated by Sabel Gavaldon at Can Felipa Arts Visual, Barcelona. Recent Work by Artists took place at our Kings Cross site from July-September 2013.
Llocs comuns (Commonplaces) takes the reciprocity between artistic labour and changes in the production economy as its starting point, without forgetting that these days productivity stretches beyond the factory walls, encroaching upon and permeating every facet of life, dragging the intimate, creative and recreational realms to a logic that compels us to capitalise on every one of our social exchanges.
The works of these artists invite us to question the validity of notions such as immaterial and cooperative labour, while denoting the fragility of community links at a time in which work spaces are becoming atomised and the production of knowledge is becoming so diffuse that it seems untraceable.
In a post-industrial context marked by uncertainty and the dispersal of production, this exhibition poses the challenge of rediscovering shared spaces and forms of public debate that allow us to rethink the ideas of community and collective experience.
