Better Place Portraiture hosts a bestial séance at Auto Italia, inviting the public to come and take part in an evening of film, drawing, phantasms and old friends. Spirits will be cast onto paper through the medium of the pencil. One by one, members of the public share with Better Place Portraiture a memory of a departed pet. In return, the team endeavour to make contact and provide a portrait from beyond the grave. Please do not feel anxious, ghosts are harmless. There is nothing to fear. If an entity is perceived, simply view it as evidence of a living imagination and the persistent power of the pencil.

Better Place Portraiture is an ongoing psychic collaboration between the artists Darren Banks and Flora Whiteley. Together they channel a shared interest in the intuitive, the domestic and the supernatural. Their collaborations include The Bird Room, Novotel Rooms 2, Magnifitat, Edinburgh, 2002; Better Place Portraiture I, Mima, Middlesborough, 2004; and The Disembodiment, displayed at both Magacin, Belgrade 2009 and Temporary Contemporary, The Old Police Station, London.
